Anytime food and film come together, count me in!  That’s why I was so excited to attend the world premiere of “The Hundred-Foot Journey” this Monday night at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York City.

I had never been to an actual movie premiere before, so it was pretty exciting to get all dolled up for a night on the town!

As we approached the theatre on 54th street, the traffic was snarled and fans were hovering to try and catch a glimpse of the star of the film, Helen Mirren or even Oprah, one of the producers.

I tried to sneak a peek of the red carpet, but so far no celebrity sightings.  However I did hear a bunch of camera shutters and paparazzi shouts!

Upon entering the gorgeous and historic theater we were greeted with a surprise treat – a special blend from The Republic of Tea made just for the film.

The flavor is “Cardamom Creme Brûlée.”  A premium black tea inspired by the classic French dessert and infused with the exotic spiciness of fresh cardamom.  Try it with a splash of warm milk for an extra special treat!

There was also free popcorn and drinks.  Awesome – considering these usually cost more than the price of the tickets!

We sat down to our assigned seats, excited for the film to begin!

“A hundred-foot journey begins in that moment when you bravely drop what is familiar and cross over into a new realm that is far out of your comfort zone. It is a profound journey, however small in physical distance, that materially changes the course of your life for the better. “

The movie was absolutely adorable – guaranteed to make you smile and make you hungry!  (Dinner plans at your favorite Indian restaurant after the movie is highly recommended.)  It is a wholesome film, artfully composed and beautifully shot.  A movie the entire family can enjoy together.

For those passionate about food and creating recipes, you will walk away feeling inspired.  You might find yourself dusting off some old cookbooks from your childhood or pouring through your pantry for herbs and spices that evoke memories.  The best dishes come from who we are, our history.  A lesson from the film that can certainly be applied when working on contest ideas and developing new recipes.

“The Hundred-Foot Journey” opens nationwide on Friday August 8th.

Of course, I had to share with you a few recipes from the film!  Both of these were developed by Chef Floyd Cardoz and are featured in the storyline.

Just went and saw the movie today and LOVED it. The food is amazing and we got so hungry in the movie that we went out and had lunch at a brand new Indian Restaurant in the area and of course the food was amazing. Being the foodie that I am, we will definitely be buying this movie. It is just delightful!!

Great report! Too bad we can’t ask Oprah and Spielberg why they changed so much near the end of the book!
