National Sourdough Bread Day
Can you believe it’s already April? No, that’s not a joke…2013 is really flying by!
Last month I put out the call to the Cooking Contest Central audience looking for guest bloggers to contribute stories about “food holidays” to the site. The response was fantastic! Dates quickly filled up as the talented CCC readers stepped up to the plate to share their recipes and skills. Come back every day this month to see a new post!
I wanted to kick things off today with “National Sourdough Bread Day.” If you ask me, you haven’t had sourdough until you have had San Francisco sourdough from the Boudin Bakery on Fisherman’s Wharf. There’s just something about that cool, saltwater air in the bay that makes this sourdough bread in a class all its own. (I have been known to stash a few loaves in my carry-on as a souvenir.)
Last time I was in the “city by the bay” I enjoyed a leisurely breakfast along the waterfront. When I saw they were offering scrambled eggs in a toasted bread bowl, and I just had to try it. If you love soup in a bread bowl for lunch, why not eggs in a bread bowl for breakfast! When I came back home, I tried to re-create the experience. The recipe can be found on my blog “The Daily Dish” at BetterRecipes.com:

I agree, Boudin is the best. And there is something about that salty San Fran air that enhances the whole sour dough bread experience!
