Mixed Berry Crisp
Even brunch deserves a dessert! This one is perfect. It’s seasonal, easy, and delicious.
Ingredients
- Topping:
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- ½ cup packed light brown sugar
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- Pinch of salt
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- 8 Tbs unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
- 1/3 cup chopped roasted mixed nuts, no peanuts
- Fruit:
- 6 generous cups frozen mixed berries
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 Tbs cornstarch
- 2 Tbs orange juice
- ½ tsp almond extract
Instructions
- For the topping: In a food processor, combine all of the topping ingredients except the nuts. Pulse until well combined and resembles coarse cornmeal. Stir in the nuts, refrigerate until needed.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- In a large bowl, combine the frozen berries and sugar. Combine the cornstarch, orange juice and almond extract in a small bowl. Mix until completely combined. Pour over the berries and toss well.
- Pour the fruit into a medium casserole dish. Sprinkle about ½ of the topping mixture evenly over the berries. Bake for 20 minutes.
- Sprinkle the remaining topping over the berries and bake until bubbly and topping is golden brown, 15-35 minutes. Let cool for 20 minutes before serving. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
