Even brunch deserves a dessert! This one is perfect. It’s seasonal, easy, and delicious.

Ingredients

  • Topping:
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 8 Tbs unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
  • 1/3 cup chopped roasted mixed nuts, no peanuts
  • Fruit:
  • 6 generous cups frozen mixed berries
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 Tbs cornstarch
  • 2 Tbs orange juice
  • ½ tsp almond extract

Instructions

  1. For the topping: In a food processor, combine all of the topping ingredients except the nuts. Pulse until well combined and resembles coarse cornmeal. Stir in the nuts, refrigerate until needed.
  2. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the frozen berries and sugar. Combine the cornstarch, orange juice and almond extract in a small bowl. Mix until completely combined. Pour over the berries and toss well.
  4. Pour the fruit into a medium casserole dish. Sprinkle about ½ of the topping mixture evenly over the berries. Bake for 20 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle the remaining topping over the berries and bake until bubbly and topping is golden brown, 15-35 minutes. Let cool for 20 minutes before serving. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
