Monte Cristo Casserole

This Monte Cristo Casserole is an easy, crowd-pleasing breakfast or brunch recipe that delivers all the classic flavors of a traditional Monte Cristo sandwich in a convenient baked dish. Made with layers of savory ham, turkey, and melty cheese, this make-ahead casserole can be assembled in the morning and baked later for a stress-free meal.
Perfect for potlucks, holiday brunches, or family gatherings, this recipe is known for its rich flavor and simple preparation. Leftovers can be sliced, frozen, and reheated in a skillet with a touch of butter for a quick and delicious meal. Serve with strawberry jam or maple syrup for the perfect sweet-and-savory finish.
- 1 loaf French bread, cut in ยฝ inch slices
- 2 tablespoons dijon mustard
- 6 ounces thin sliced Swiss cheese
- 8 ounces thin cut ham
- 6oz thin sliced provolone cheese
- 4 eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/4 cup bread crumbs
- 2 tablespoons parsley, chopped
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 8 ounces bacon, cooked & crumbled
- 4 ounces grated mozzarella
- 1 cup Bonne Maman strawberry preserves, heated/melted
- Prepare a large rectangular baking dish with cooking spray. Layer ยฝ of the bread into the bottom of the dish and brush with mustard. Top with slices of Swiss cheese, ham, and Provolone cheese. Layer the remaining bread slices.
- In a medium bowl, beat the egg and milk. Pour over the casserole. Cover and chill for 1 hour or up to overnight.
- Preheat over to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. In a small bowl, mix the bread crumbs, parsley and olive oil. Sprinkle over the casserole top and bake for 40 minutes. Remove from oven and top with bacon and mozzarella. Return to oven just long enough for cheese to melt; about 3 minutes. Divide into 8 sections and serve on individual plates drizzled with warmed and melted strawberry preserves.
