Remember the “Choose Your Own Adventure” books from back in the day?  Through a few simple turns of the page you could take a story in any direction your heart desired.  This year the Scharffen Berger “Chocolate Adventure” contest wants to see how you can offer a simple yet adventurous twist on a bar recipe for a chance at $25,000.

The assignment is exciting.  Simply combine Scharffen Berger chocolate with one or more of 12 adventure ingredients to create an original Bar recipe:

Bourbon
Turbinado Sugar
Fresh Pomegranate
Hibiscus
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Peppercorn (any type—black, green, red)
Pandan Leaf or Pandan Leaf Extract
Coconut Milk, Cream, Butter or Oil
Oat Flour
Carrot
Sesame Seeds (black or white)
Fresh Croutons or Crostini

Before you sit down to start creating your recipe submissions, take a look at some of these ideas from Scharffen Berger.

The classic Nanaimo bar, a no-bake square, dates back to the fifties. Here, an element of adventure was infused into each of its three layers.

Pomegranate and white sesame seeds add surprising texture and exciting depth of flavor to a classic chocolate bark recipe.

Scharffen Berger semisweet—62% cacao—and an infusion of bourbon turned a traditional baking bar into this Black-Bottomed Bourbon Bar.

The familiar ice cream bar gets adventurous with olive oil vanilla bean ice cream and Scharffen Berger 70% cacao.

Who says making a candy has to be complicated?  Scharffen Berger made theirs in less than an hour.

The addition of pandan leaf extract and coconut milk transform a classic bar into something deliciously inventive.
