Happy National Burger Day!  To celebrate, I wanted to share a unique and creative award-winning burger from over 20 years ago.  These Gingered Beef Burgers earned the grand prize in the 1993 Build a Better Burger recipe contest.

A beef burger patty is accented with crystalized ginger, soy sauce, mirin and, of course, a dash of wine.  The elegant hamburgers pair perfectly with a Sutter Home White Zinfandel.

I love the crunch from the grilled jicama, the moist and juicy ginger beef patty and the sweet grilled onions on top.  If you want to try something new this National Burger Day, be sure to add this recipe to your grocery shopping list!
